This Scholarships for Nurses program investigates how the 4 - to 10-year-olds get encoding prosodic focus in four different languages in both the realization of sharp focus prosody prosody and lexical specification, namely Korean, Swedish, Dutch and Mandarin Chinese. Special attention will be given to how individuals differ in the level and route of acquisition and what causes individual differences. The program aims to develop a comprehensive theory of the acquisition of prosodic encoding focus with an emphasis on language-specificity and individual differences.
